Tips for a Speedy Tour Through Airport Security

!±8± Tips for a Speedy Tour Through Airport Security

Getting through airport security has become a very humbling experience for many passengers. With each new additional layer of security measure imposed by the government, travelers are asked to give up a portion of their privacy for the overall safety of everyone. Contemplate your options before traveling. For instance, with the recently implemented, Advanced Imaging Technology by Transportation Security Administration at US airports, you have a choice to experience the scanner where the body's image is revealed to an agent or succumb to a TSA pat down that now involves the agent using his palms facing inward to the body, instead of the previous standard of using palms facing outward. The procedure is considered to be intrusive by many but according to a cbsnews article "Poll: 4 of 5 support Full-Body Airport Scanners" by Stephanie Condon there is an overwhelming support for use of the equipment. Seemingly, the new practice is here to stay. Here are few other tips for you to consider for a speedy tour through airport security:

1. Arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight time. Check with the carrier since each airline bases its time recommendation independently on estimated travel flow for any particular day.

2. Avoid wearing clothes, under-wire bras, shoes, hair accessories, jewelry and belts containing metal. Remove any metal body piercing. Otherwise, the metal detector would sound off an alarm even for the most discrete piercing causing a delay. The passenger then has to remove the offending item and/or submit further to additional screening. You still have to remove your shoes before going through the metal detector for x-ray. It is easier to wear slip on shoes that are easier to remove than let's say shoes with laces that could hold up the line if not done quickly.

3. Pets and children are to be taken out of their carriers so that the carriers can be x-rayed. Try to get an airport assistant, if you are traveling with more than one pet and child, before going through the line. It can be quite challenging to hold a baby in one arm while trying to hold a small cat, for example, in the other. Collapse the baby stroller ahead of getting to the metal detector.

4. Prepare liquids in carry-on luggage to conform to the 3-1-1 rule. Each passenger is allowed one quart-sized plastic zip bag to contain 3.4 oz. bottle or less. If unsure, tape the tops of bottles to prevent leakage and put them in your checked baggage. An exception is made for larger reasonable quantities of liquid declared for medications, baby formula, food and breast milk.

5. Remove laptops, cameras that use cassettes, video game consoles and DVD players from their carrying cases. They will need to be x-rayed separately.

6. Until leaving the security check-in, have both government-issued photo ID and boarding pass available for inspection.

7. Do not wrap gifts, as the transportation security agent may need to unwrap the package for further inspection. Declare film over 800-speed to the agent for physical inspection to prevent damage from x-ray machine.

Smart Travel Tips When Flying

!±8± Smart Travel Tips When Flying

Taking a trip can be a nerve-wrecking experience, whether you're taking a last minute trip, or your trip is something that you've planned out weeks or even months in advance. This is because as you are anticipating the destination on the other end of your flight, you're constantly wondering what you'll need, what they'll already have for you, what you can't leave at home and what you can't leave there. This means you are usually running around in circles at the last minute making sure you've packed your tooth brush, contact solution, passport, extra batteries, and chewing gum for the flight, and anything else that is vital to you. Now add in the flight security restrictions you must take into consideration when you arrive at the airport and you're sure to lose your mind. But while it can be worrisome trying to get everything together, I can assure you, traveling doesn't have to be the end of the world if you do a little planning and follow these easy travel tips. Read on!

Plan While Packing

This is probably the most important part of your trip - not simply because you might leave something behind that you will desperately need later. But also because when you get to the airport you will have to follow certain procedures that will leave you rustling through your items and trying to make last minute arrangements with little time to spare.

One of the cardinal travel tips (rules) of this day and age is that flight security will not let you take liquids past the security checkpoint. This not only includes beverages, but toothpaste, liquid deodorant, lotion, lip gloss, aerosols, and much more. Of course, many people are used to packing these items in their carry-on bag and don't even consider the fact that they're not allowed. But that reality will be realized when you're passing your items through the x-ray machine only to have a security officer take your bag, rifle through it, and confiscate your precious Country Apple Bath and Body Works lotion you just got for Christmas - and they're not giving it back!

To avoid this, it helps to learn their travel tips, which include packing larger bottles of liquids into the bag you're checking. The airport does allow a small, clear zipper-top bag with liquids smaller than three ounces in size (no aerosols) to come with you on the plane, so you must remember to pack these small travel liquids in your zip lock bag then pack all other liquids into the bag(s) you intend to check.

Another packing essential that many people don't think about is shoes. At every flight security checkpoint, you are required to take off your shoes. If you have shoes or boots that are difficult to remove in a speedy fashion you may slow up the flow of traffic moving through the checking point; security and the other anxious passengers will become very impatient with you - and you'll probably be impatient with yourself. To avoid this issue, it is best to wear easy to remove sneakers, and if you need to change your shoes after the checkpoint, just pack the pair you intend to wear in your carry-on bag; it will make the process much easier.

When You Arrive at the Airport

One of the best travel tips I can offer is, depending on the time of the year that you're traveling, you will want to make sure to arrive at the airport at least two hours before flight departure. This is because it is customary for airlines to begin their boarding process 30-40 minutes prior to departure time. So you really only have about 1 ½ hours to do the rest before boarding the flight - and there is a lot to do.

Depending on how you reserved your ticket, you may have to print your ticket at the check-in station, which now consists mainly of kiosks that guarantee you do most of the work. While the kiosks can be convenient to use, they do require that you know what you're doing before you start punching letters and numbers. That's why one of the travel tips I remember for myself is to keep my ticket record locator (normally a 13-digit number), my confirmation number, and my driver's license (or other state-issued ID) handy. After using either the ticket record locater or confirmation number to find and print your ticket, you will then have to check your bag(s) at the counter and show you're ID'ING Once that part of the process is finished and they've relieved you of your clumsy luggage, you are ready to go through the security checkpoint (gasp!).

The Security Checkpoint

The security checkpoint is actually not as bad as you think it might be. As stated previously, it does move fast, but if you know what to do, it will also move just as smoothly as any other part of the process. So another one of my travel tips is to remember that when you arrive at the security checkpoint, you will first need to present your ID and boarding pass, both of which should now be handy from when you checked your bags.

Once you pass this point, you will have to place your carry-on items on a belt that moves through an x-ray machine, while you simultaneously walk through a metal detector. Before you place your items on the belt, you will have to remove your shoes and your zip-lock bag with liquids, as well as any electronic device larger than your hand and place them in containers to move on the belt. Once you successfully pass through the security checkpoint and gather your items, you're set! The only thing you have left to do now is board the plane!

It's always a good idea to accumulate travel tips from a variety of sources when vacationing to ensure that when the time comes to actually take your trip you don't have to panic about what you may or may not be missing. I've been a fan of looking for travel tips as they have helped me out tremendously, and now I hope that mine have been able to help you. Happy traveling and good luck!

Departure Procedures at Manila's International Airport - An 8-Step Checklist

!±8± Departure Procedures at Manila's International Airport - An 8-Step Checklist

For passengers departing Manila for the first time the departure procedures can be a bit daunting. However, knowing what to expect can make your departure much less intimidating, so here is an 8-step checklist that explains the procedures you will have to go through.

When you arrive at the departure level at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport expect to find hordes of people outside the entrance. Not all of these will be departing passengers. In fact the majority will be family members who have come to say goodbye.

Step 1 - Entry Check

Here is where you join the first queue - the airport entrance queue.

Before you can enter the building you must show both your passport and your airline ticket, so have them ready.

Now is a good time to remove metal objects from your pockets or purse and place them in your hand carried luggage that will be x-rayed. These items include watches, pens, cell phones, coins - anything that will trigger the metal detector. Doing this early will save delays later.

Once you have shown your passport and ticket you will have to place all your luggage on the x-ray conveyor belt before walking through the metal detector.

Step 2 - Airline Check-in

If all goes well you can collect your luggage and proceed to your airline check-in counter. Expect huge queues so get there early - in 2009 airport was rated as the 48th busiest in the world!

While waiting in the check-in queue be prepared to have your baggage sniff tested for explosives.

After checking in and getting your boarding pass you now proceed to the departure area - but your queuing is not yet over.

Step 3 - Pay Departure Tax

Before entering the departure area you must show your passport and your boarding pass. Once cleared you now go to the counter where you pay your departure tax. This tax is currently 750 pesos per passenger.

At the counter you must give the counter operator your boarding pass and the money. She will return your boarding pass along with a receipt.

Step 4 - Immigration Clearance

The next step is Immigration Clearance. Here you present your passport and your boarding pass.

Step 5 - Security Check

The next queue is at the security check. Once again make sure you have taken all metal objects out of your pockets or purse. You can either place these in your hand carry bag or in a plastic tray that the security people will provide.

You also have to remove your shoes and place them in the plastic tray along with your laptop computer.

Make sure you adhere to the currency export limits for both Philippine pesos and foreign currencies.

After you have gone through the metal detector you can collect your bags and the tray with your personal effects, then proceed into the departure area.

Congratulations! You have made it.

Step 6 - Select a Lounge

If you are a first or business class passenger just go to the appropriate airline lounge.

If you are an economy class passenger you can either browse the duty free shops and then proceed to the departure gate or go to one of the special lounges that offer equal or even better facilities than business class lounges.

For example, the Sampaguita Lounge is on the fourth floor and offers snacks, TV, Wi-Fi, computer rooms, non-smoking areas, and a nice view of the airport. All this for only 450 pesos.

The staff will announce your flight boarding time well in advance so there will be no last minute panic getting to the gate.

Step 7 - Departure Gate Check

If you think you have stood in the last queue you may be disappointed. Depending on your airline there may be one more security check. This will be as you enter the departure gate area. This check is just a routine and quick check of you and your hand carried bag.

Step 8 - Passport Boarding Check

Again, depending on the airline, you may have to show both your boarding card and your passport as you board the aircraft. If so, be ready and have your passport open at the photo page.

That's it - have a happy flight!

How to Find Cheap Air Tickets While Travelling in India

!±8± How to Find Cheap Air Tickets While Travelling in India

The natural beauty, the myriad colours, the exotic food and the wonderful hospitality of the people are just some of the things that make India an incredible experience for tourists from all over the world. India has so much to offer that it can truly be called a complete package for travel, and this has made it one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. There is no shortage of places to visit and things to do in India. You can get a glimpse into the rich history and heritage of the land by visiting ancient monuments and buildings like the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort. If you wish to be close to nature, the awesome beauty of the Himalayan mountain range and the lush greenery of "God's Own Country", Kerala will leave you mesmerised. For those seeking pure unadulterated fun, the beaches of Goa is the place to party; while the palaces and forts of Rajasthan, the land of Kings, offer a truly regal experience.

India is a vast country - the seventh largest in terms of geographical area and the second largest in terms of population. It is a nation of variety, diversity and contrasts, all of which add to the uniqueness of the experience. It is a place where multiple cultures, languages, cuisines, customs and religions not only exist side by side but are inextricably held together, seemingly by some mystical force. India's vastness also means that you cannot possibly cover all its destinations or even the most famous attractions in a few days. In order to really explore the country and discovers its many features, you will need to plan your trip for about two months. Touring India can be an intense and exciting experience, but does not need to be expensive. Travel, accommodation and food will all appear cheap for European and North American travellers and with a bit of planning you can get the maximum bang for your buck.

While planning your trip to India, do not forget to compare prices from different airlines and websites to get cheap air tickets to India. Most travel websites, including Airlines and Online Travel Agents offer discounted airfares on international and domestic flights. They provide you with a wide range of updated information not only on flight schedules and availability, but also destinations, cities, airports, the weather and many other things.

To make sure you get the best airfare deals, purchase your tickets well in advance, if you are sure of your travel dates. If possible, try and book your tickets 3-6 months in advance, to avail the most lucrative offers and discounts. The best deals are almost always available on the World Wide Web, so check the internet regularly and make sure your book online. Buying tickets on the internet is a completely hassle free experience which will save you a lot of money and time. With a bit of research you will also be able to find several attractive hotel deals that suit your budget and requirements.

Travel Tips for India

Stick to these few basic tips and make your trip to India all the more enjoyable and hassle free.

Avoid travelling on weekends: Most Indian travellers choose to travel on a weekend, which makes it difficult to get tickets for those days.

Advance booking: If you can plan your trip to India three or more months in advance you will have a good chance of getting cheap tickets even during the peak months.

Weather in India: India is generally a hot tropical country but there are areas that get fairly cold during the winter. From March to August it is hot in most parts of the country and temperatures are known to exceed 40 degrees Celsius several places in Northern and Western India. A great way to beat the heat is to go to a hill station or resort in the Kashmir valley or Himachal Pradesh. September and November are ideal for trekking in the Himalayas. However, the best time to travel in India is between October and February, as the weather is cooler and much easier to bear. Visiting India at this time will be more comfortable and will probably allow you to cover more places. In general, the north of India is temperate, the centre is hot and dry, while the south has a sub-tropical climate.

Peak time in India: The most expensive air tickets to India are found during the peak holiday season in October as there are many Indian festivals that take place at this time. Ticket prices also rise in December and January on account of Christmas New Year.
